Sue explains "In November 2009 Belgrave High School became the first High School in Tamworth and, at the time, the seventh in the whole of Staffordshire to achieve Full Status as a Dyslexia Friendly School. Many strategies were implemented to help our dyslexic students as well as training for staff and workshops for parents and governors. One of the resources we decided to invest in was Read&Write GOLD.
The software has enabled, not just our dyslexic students, but those across the whole school to become more independent in both their reading and writing. Being able to listen back to what they have written (through the text-to-speech functionality) and to choose the correct word (because the meaning is explained to them) has opened up a whole new experience to students. Teachers have noticed they now want to write and get a real sense of achievement from their work.
Similarly with their reading; no longer are the students held back because they can't read a resource sheet.
